The Last Airbender, Aang, was ordained to become the Avatar. To put it generally, an Avatar is a being who has supremacy over the bending techniques of all the elements. As these weights are made of metal, he could have incorporated kettlebells into his Avatar training. This way of training is not just meant for people, after all. Any single elemental training routine could have used of the weights in one way or another.
While learning water bending, Aang could use water and move the kettlebells. He could sink them into water and use a selection of methods to locate the kettlebell at the bottom of the water. He could also fine tune his methods. This could be done by having someone throw kettlebells at him and him having to understand to use water to defend himself.
As one part of the Earth bending in conjunction with weight training, Aang would manipulate the weights away from his body. He would take part in a series of exercises in which he would stop the weight from making contact with the ground. Aang would succeed in this act by taking aim at the ground, blasting parts of the Earth up at the weight. Once Aang had a firm understanding of this training, then it's possible that a higher level of Avatar training could open up for him.
The hardest part for Aang will be his fire bending study sessions. As it has to be Prince Zuko who instructs him, the training will be difficult at best. Zuko could propel fiery kettlebells at Aang which he'll have to deflect, or use these unique weights to block fire shots from Zuko. If Aang becomes a true fire bending master, then he could simply use lightning to deflect the weights away from him, or redirect lightning at his attacker. Fitness authorities like Lorna endorse such weights due to such versatility.
Kettlebells are a versatile tool to work out with, and that's just from the typical human perspective. If it were from the perspective of someone who is in training to change into the next master of the elements, it is truly useful. Keep in mind that the Avatar could use a simple kettlebell in his training to someday attain mastery over the elements. You can think about what a normal human could do as well.
